Understanding Your Child's Test Scores
Welcome to Understanding Your Child's Test Scores, a component of this website that focuses on explaining, in everyday language, what all those test scores your child receives really mean.
With so much at stake in these days of annual testing of virtually all children because of federal requirements such as No Child Left Behind, I continue to be amazed at the enormous amount of inaccurate information given to parents, to teachers, and to the public about test scores and what they mean.
This site offers parents and teachers information about the massive amount of testing that goes on in our schools. Through articles, blogs, and podcasts, you'll find clear, coherent, and brief presentations on a wide range of topics related to testing and especially on interpreting and understanding test scores.
In these pages, blogs, and podcasts, we’ll focus on topics related to understanding test scores. We’ll start with a fairly simple discussion of tests themselves–what they are, and what they are not. We’ll move on to the scores your child receives on the tests that teachers give regularly, such as a weekly math test or spelling test. Then, we’ll focus on to other kinds of scores used in commercially produced tests, such as those given only once a year to meet federal laws, and finally on to tests used for special education purposes. And, of course, throughout all this, we'll discuss just what those scores mean.
Some topics may need more than one blog or podcast
So, through this website, I hope to offer accurate, understandable, and usable information to parents and teachers.
Again, welcome to Understanding Your Child's Test Scores.
